Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the Russian army has killed about 600 foreign mercenaries in a special military operation in Ukraine, and hundreds more have fled the country, RT reported Thursday.Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in a video conference on Thursday that the number of non-Ukrainian fighters fighting on the Kiev side has decreased recently, due to the Russian military’s use of high-precision ammunition to carry out strikes, causing casualties.”In the last two weeks, more than 500 mercenaries have left the country and about 600 have been killed,” he said.He added that the Russian military “is continuing targeted efforts to track and eliminate them.”Speaking about the overall situation of the military operation, the Russian defense minister said that the main objectives of the first phase had been achieved. “The Ukrainian army suffered heavy losses, which allowed the Russian army to concentrate on liberating the Donbas region next.”The report notes that Russian forces have carried out several attacks on mercenary positions in Ukraine since the conflict began.In mid-March, Russian forces used high-precision long-range weapons to strike the Yavorov military training ground in Ukraine’s Lviv region, killing as many as 180 foreign mercenaries, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, though Ukraine has reported far fewer deaths.A few days later, Russian air force launched a missile strike on a Ukrainian special Operations forces training center in Zhytomyr oblprefecture, killing more than 100 Ukrainian special Operations forces soldiers and foreign mercenaries.(Edit: HHJ)
